‘Between Things’ is a collaborative exhibition currently showing at The Minories Gallery in Colchester until 10th June. Featuring artworks from a series of different artists, who are all connected by the playful approach to their work. This is a bright, colorful and detailed exhibition which I thoroughly enjoyed viewing. What really stood out to me overall, were the series of bold, knitted blankets hanging on the walls, known as the ‘Crazy Blankets’, by art collaborative ‘Paris Essex’. As described on their website the duo ‘take turns to play with crochet and knit, mohair, wool and super-synthetics. Like collage, patchwork and crazy-paving we mix up ideas to make patterns, shapes, stories and characters.’.
As a fashion and textiles student, this exhibition was particularly beneficial to attend as it featured lots of textiles-made art and got me thinking about using alternative materials to create outcomes. I also found the watercolour paintings by artist, Ben Coode-Adams really interesting. I think the character of each individual artwork is what appealed to me, as each piece seemed to own a personality and tell a story.
