In order to kick off my research into the Missoni X F.A.D project, I took a trip to the current Missoni Exhibition at the Fashion + Textiles Museum. The F.A.D competition for 2017 is based on taking ‘the Missoni approach: a way of thinking where creativity is rooted in culture.’. The task; ‘design a ‘mini-collection’ of two complementary outfits, menswear or womenswear for Missoni, winter 2018.’.

With a limited knowledge of the history and background of Missoni, the exhibition was very informative and I discovered there was much more to the fashion house than the iconic chevron print.

I was pleasantly surprised at the use of fabric pattern and colour within the clothing and textiles. Early Missoni designs were greatly inspired by Futurist/Postmodernist art, and the journey from art to fashion was well documented throughout the exhibition.

For the Missoni project, I want to go down a similar design process as the fashion house, and convert artistic influences into a clothing collection.
