FIRSTSITE IN BLACK+WHITE

The first few weeks of term have been all about Firstsite, the contemporary art space in Colchester. After doing some initial observational drawings in the building itself, I have been using them to inspire my work in the print and construction workshops. Designed by Uruguayan architect Rafael Viñoly (also the designer of 20 Fenchurch Street), Firsite is a vast and beautiful space, full of interesting line, shape and contrast. The way in which I interpreted my visual response to the building was based on my own individual drawing style. Initially I am working solely in black and white, this enables me to concentrate on structure and composition without having the huge subject of colour to contend with. I also feel like working without colour is much more fitting, as it is simple and unfussy, much like the interior of Firstsite.
